All over the world, at all times of day, there are artists praying and hopefully grinding for their chance at the spotlight. Poets are writing jumbled couplets and stumbling at spoken words and rappers are reciting 16′s and fumbling in cyphers but in all in pursuit to hone the skills of the art they love. Same goes for singers, painters, models, and any other type of artist to name. Well, your source for indie art and urban culture has a way to keep your eyes and ears open with the “New Artist Spotlight”. This will give you updates on some of the staff’s favorite up-and-coming artists as they progress in their quest to become more than a local name. Additionally, as we find new, dope artists you will too. We can’t be selfish with the dopeness.
You can’t speak of poetry without thinking of a woman. Deiera Evans is making sure that is a known fact with her growing skill in the realm of poetry/spoken word. Evans has been performing at open-mics with her profound couplets and stanzas for some time now and supporters finally have a chance to see evidence of a young woman with a great mind. Check out her latest performance at the Spitfire Open Mic of her poem, “Judgement Day“.
If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last week then PointOfLu is a familiar name to you. Lu has been giving floozies what he calls “PoeTrap” in a 5-part series directed by Bloo Woods. You can find the parts you have missed in both the Pen with a Purpose and Floozy Ave sections. Although short pieces of work, they are just enough to pass a dope message and leave the audience waiting for the next video. PoeTrap, poetic dopeness in a different shell.
Every pen has a purpose, and every drop has a story. – Isaiah Smart
